I’m sure my Android fans friends will laugh as they will read this post, but I’m doing perfectly fine being they only one using iPhone in this closed group.
Last week I was on vacation with my wife, and I encountered something very strange in one of my apps (Shazam), it will not update. It kept reporting that an update is needed, but it won’t even start the update process.
The app icon itself way grayed out, like it was in the middle of installing, and the app icon at the available updates list was showing the “stop” sign (see screen shots), so it looks as if stopping the update process was possible.
I have tried to delete the app, but it won’t remove itself.
I have tried switching to a Wi-Fi network, thinking maybe it is a roaming issue, no joy.
I have tried stopping the update process, shutting down my iPhone, then starting it again, but without any success.
To be honest, If it was just the update issue, it wasn’t such a big deal, but the fact that it kept trying to update, was killing my battery very fast.
Good thing I took my mobile power bank with me.

Unfortunately, unlike my solution to Windows 10 update error 0x800705b4, I do not carry great news when it comes to fixing this issue. the only solution I could find was the one least wanted – factory reset.
I waited until I got home then:
- I did a complete backup using iTunes
- I did a full factory + data reset to my iPhone
- I restored my iPhone from backup.
As soon as the restore process was completed, the app was downloading and updating without any issue.
I know, I know, not the most perfect solution, but if you can come up with a better one, I invite you to share it by commenting below.
